How Fresh Coffee Makes a Difference

Freshness is one of the most important factors in how coffee tastes, yet it’s often overlooked. Coffee doesn’t improve with age, and once it’s roasted, the clock starts ticking.
After roasting, coffee releases carbon dioxide in a process known as degassing. During this period, flavours settle and develop. Brew too early and the coffee can taste sharp or unstable. Brew too late and it can taste flat, dull, or lifeless. Most freshly roasted coffee is best enjoyed within a few weeks of roasting, depending on the brew method.
Fresh coffee delivers brighter flavours, better aroma, and more balanced extraction. For espresso, freshness impacts crema, body, and consistency. For filter brewing, it affects clarity and sweetness. In cafés, freshness directly influences customer experience and repeat business.
Our Consistency and Timing
At Stay Grounded, we roast coffee in small batches and supply cafés across WA with a focus on consistency and timing. For wholesale partners, this means predictable delivery schedules and coffee that performs reliably behind the bar. For home brewers, it means better results without overcomplicating the process.
Storage is important. Coffee should be stored in our bags, which feature a one-way valve to release gas without allowing oxygen in, and kept away from heat, light, and moisture. Grinding coffee just before brewing maintains its flavor and aroma much better than pre-ground coffee.
Whether you’re running a café, launching a new coffee business, or simply brewing at home, fresh coffee is one of the easiest ways to improve quality. It’s not about chasing trends, it’s about respecting the product and getting the best from every cup.
